Unaware to most, cheeks are one of the most important areas of the face that contributes to aging! You might notice that when looking at photographs from late teens/early 20s that your face looked a lot plumper. The reason for this is because of malar fat pads in our face that keep us looking youthful. Fat pads in the mid facial area are responsible for providing fullness to our cheeks and eyes and provide a youthful contour to the face. From around the age of 25, the first signs of aging start to become apparent. As time progresses, those fat pads start depleting and gravity starts pulling the fat pads down.
As a result, most complaints are of a gradual hallowing around the eye-lids, the development of folds from the nose to the corner of the mouth (Naso-labial folds), shadowing of the face, and a droop at the corner of the mouth.
A lot of people don’t realise that volume loss to cheeks is the culprit to other aging issues in the face. This is why it’s important to treat the CAUSE not the PROBLEM. Replacing volume back into the mid-face (cheeks) will help anchor the skin back, reducing the appearance of sagginess and replace fullness around the cheeks and eyes. This reduces the appearance of shadowing and the appearance of naso-labial lines. The result is a more re-freshed, youthful appearance.
